G7 Leaders: Expel Iran's Diplomats / Demand that Political Prisoners Be Freed

To the Honourable Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada and the United States, the G7 Group of Nations:

We, the founding members of Iranians for Justice and Human Rights, along with other co-signatories, hereby express our deepest concern about the developments in Iran over the past five weeks.
The brutal crackdown and violence by various forces of the Islamic regime in Iran in reaction to protests sparked by the Islamic regime's killing of Mahsa Amini has resulted in countless deaths, injuries, and incarcerations. It is evident that the Islamic regime in Iran intends to continue and escalate the inhumane violence against its own citizens.

On October 15, troubling reports and video evidence emerged of shootings and a fire in Evin Prison, the notorious location in which many prisoners are incarcerated.
We are concerned that the lives of many prisoners of conscience (including but not limited to political prisoners, civic activists, artists, representatives of ethnic and religious groups, and labour unionists) and dual citizens held in that prison and other prisons across Iran are in grave danger.

Free Niloofar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohamadi imprisoned for breaking news of MahsaAmini

On September 22, the woman journalist Niloofar Hamedi who broke the story of Mahsa Amini’s death, was reportedly arrested by the Iranian authorities. Mohammed Ali Kamfirouzi, the advocate representing Hamedi, informed about the arrest on social media. Hamedi works for Shargh newspaper.

Her arrest was confirmed to Committed to Protect Journalists (CPJ) by her father, Gholamreza Moaiery, who told the organization that she was detained in Qarchak prison, a female-only detention facility in Varamin, Iran.

On September 29, 2022, security forces arrested Elaheh Mohammadi, a reporter for the daily newspaper Hammihan.

As a reporter, Mohammdi had gone to Saqqez and made a report on Mahsa Amini’s funeral and she got arrested as well.

The Iranian authorities must understand that they cannot hide the nationwide protests against the government by imprisoning journalists.

We people of Iran are truly worried about them since they’re still imprisoned under Islamic Republic’s torture. Please help free them from jail.

End Women's Slavery in Iran

The “morality police” in Iran routinely subject women and girls to arbitrary detention and torture for not complying with Iran’s abusive, degrading, and discriminatory compulsory veiling laws. The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in police custody sparked widespread protests across Iran. But as we have seen so often, the protests have been met with a deadly government crackdown.

Security forces have repeatedly used unlawful force. They have fired live ammunition and metal pellets at protesters at close range, misused tear gas and water cannons, and severely beaten people with batons. Scores of men, women, and children have been killed protesting in her name.

Hundreds of others have sustained painful and serious injuries, including at least 400 who have been blinded in one or both eyes. Most are not seeking hospital treatment for fear of arrest, increasing the risk of infection and other health complications. Iranian authorities are shutting down the internet to hide their crimes.

IMPORTANT!
We are also promoting the FREE TOOMAJ petition

Iranian rap artist and activist Toomaj Salehi was arrested on October 29, 2022, for supporting the Iranian protests. He was previously arrested in September 2021 but was released after worldwide outrage and Amnesty International put massive pressure on the Iranian regime.

Toomaj is a dissident artist who has been detained solely for supporting the Iranian uprising and exercising his right to freedom of expression. His songs are about corruption, poverty, and freedom. He consistently uses his voice to amplify the voice of Iranian people against the oppressive regime in Iran.

We are asking Amnesty International and all international human rights groups to once again call for the immediate and unconditional release of Toomaj.
